This structure is thought to have been built for the Bridgwater Turnpike Trust in the 19th century.
It was constructed in the form of a lodge house with protruding front. it is of two-storeys on a complex floor plan, having a hipped roof in plain tile, with walls mainly of brick. The windows are round arch headed with casements. There is no porch but a square headed doorway of a complex shape with oriel window above, and drip moulding around the windows. The semi-circular end bay appears to be part of the tollhouse; the canted oriel window has a hipped roof and arched windows.
It is now a domestic property with only minor changes to the original tollhouse structure. It lies on the Bridgwater to Taunton road (A38). The building is Listed Grade II.
