Former World War Two airfield of Winthorpe which now houses a significant collection of aircraft and cockpit sections.
The Museum is based on the former World War Two bomber airfield of Winthorpe in eastern Nottinghamshire, close to the border with Lincolnshire. It's extensive collection of aircraft and cockpit sections covers the history of aviation. Unfortunately very little remains of the original wartime buildings and what remains of the original runways are no longer fit for use.
The eighty aircraft on display, instore or under restoration include ten National Benchmark aircraft, twenty nine Significant aircraft and eighteen Noteworthy aircraft as listed in the National Aviation Heritage Register. Nearly two thirds of the exhibits are displayed in covered accomodation.
In addition to the aircraft the museum displays a diverse display of aviation artefacts:tion of more than thirty aero engines:
Each year the museum organises and hosts a diverse range of Special Event Days, including the annual Cockpit Fest. A team of volunteers is currently working on the in-depth restoration of Meteor NF14 WS739.
By road: Off A1 and A46.
By rail: The museum is located approximately 4 km (2.5 miles) from the Newark Castle Station and approximately 2.8 km (1.75 miles) from the Newark Northgate Station.
