HS2 and Old Oak Common seem to be much in the news lately. Since no one seems to know where Old Oak actually is, Jon Jolliffe has agreed to organise a tour of some of the more obscure parts of London’s passenger transport network. The intention is to tell some of the story of canal and rail routes from London to Birmingham, majoring on the Acton / Old Oak area. Please note this tour will NOT include any privileged access to working sites.
The tour will take place on Friday 13th October and will be an all day event, starting at Paddington at 11:00 with the aim of finishing at Euston before 17:00. Meet up by Paddington Bear, currently to be found under the clock on platform 1 of the main station.
Members and guests are welcome, though please note there will be a significant walking element (3-4km, an hour or so) to work up an appetite for a pub lunch. Come armed with a One-day travelcard valid in zones 1-3 or similar travel pass, or contactless means of payment of fares. No extra charge for the tour but tips to the tour leader optional (say £2 per head to cover expenses).
To save waiting around for non-attendees, if you plan to join us please confirm your attendance to Jon by email. In the event of any hold-ups on the day, you can contact Jon on 07954 548810.
