The small Somerset community of Norton Fitzwarren, alongside the GWR Bristol to Exeter main line, has the exceptional record of having been the site of two major, fatal rail disasters - in 1890 and 1940 [and of a third, equally serious, taking place in 1978 just across the Taunton boundary]. In the cases of both the 1890 and 1940 accidents, the Norton Fitzwarren population was heavily involved in tending for the dead and injured - yet, to date, there has been no record of this in the village. The current Parish Council is keen to rectify this situation and applied to the Trust for a RW - which will be the centre of an interpretation display, within their very attractive Village Hall. The whole display is to be dedicated on Saturday 17th November: details to follow.
